Most weapons hit once on contact. The Drill keeps hurting for as long as you keep pushing, which is why late-game players covered in drills are the scariest thing in the pond.
One warning that cost a creator his run: if the drill replaces your only mouth, you can kill things but you cannot eat them. Put a mouth or Feeding Tube right next to it. Also mind placement — a drill that sits slightly off your body's leading edge can miss entirely, which one Thai player found very frustrating.
