"What do you eat?" is the first thing Evolve a Cell asks. It looks like a big decision. It's less permanent than it seems.
The basics
- Plants (green food) — scattered everywhere, nobody contests it, nothing fights back.
- Meat (red food) — loose chunks spawn around the map, and every cell you kill drops more.
In the original Spore, meat only came from kills. Here it also spawns on its own, which makes the meat start much friendlier than Spore veterans expect.
Plants: the safe start
You can spend your whole first life farming and never take a fight. Pair it with Camo Skin (hunters can't see you while you move slowly), a Lure, and an escape tool like Ink Sack, and you're very hard to catch.
The downside: you grow slower, and when something comes for you, you have nothing to fight with.
Meat: the fast start
Hunting other cells gives big chunks of DNA, and players count too. The skill tree even has a node for +15% DNA per player eaten.
The downside: you need a mouth up front and something that does damage. A meat eater with no weapon (or a mouth covered by spikes) has a miserable time — one Thai player built a full spike shell, couldn't eat anything, and had to rebuild.
The Feeding Tube changes everything
The Feeding Tube eats plants and meat. Once you have it, your starting choice barely matters. Every pellet on the map is yours. Combined with a Drill for killing, it's the strongest economy build we've seen.
Our pick
- First life: plants. Learn the map, learn what's dangerous.
- After a rebirth or two: meat with speed parts, then add the Feeding Tube as soon as it shows up in your cards.
